When Beirut Does Better, It’s A Sure Sign The Premier Should Go

The Victorian Labor Government has proven it has fewer morals and lower standards of decency than the incompetent and dishevelled Lebanese Government which resigned in full in August.

The former Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced his government’s resignation after a deadly port bomb blast in his country’s capital, Beirut in early August.

Caused by the inappropriate storage of more than 3,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate at a port storage facility for six years, the blast killed 200 people and left more than 200,000 homeless.

The Liberal Member for Western Victoria, Bev McArthur, said even the potentially corrupt, chaotic and self-serving ruling elite in Lebanon were capable of acknowledging their failures.

“It is breath taking that the Victorian Premier – responsible for the deaths of at least 790 people from the Hotel Quarantine fiasco – is unable to accept responsibility and resign,” Mrs McArthur said.

“Premier Andrews has bypassed proper Executive Government through his ‘Gang of Eight’ COVID Ministry as well as effectively, the Parliament, and has the deaths of nearly four times as many people than the Beirut blast, as his legacy.

“Yet he points fingers at others and can’t remember who is responsible for the decisions that led to the deaths despite telling his media throng that his every effort is focused on this virus.

“Even a widely recognised inept and disgraced world leader does better than the Victorian Premier”.
“What does this say about the Victorian Government?

“This is a Labor Government whose own party is in administration due to a bold colleague delivering memberships in opposition to the Premier.

“This is a Government whose decision making has forced the Federal Government into many billions of dollars of debt to cover the economic mess still emanating from Victoria.

“The stench of disrepute, arrogance and incompetence from this Andrews’ Labor Government is shameful.

“When a chaotic overseas country can do better, and take responsibility for its failings, then it is patently clear that we are in a very sad state of affairs in Victoria.

“Victorians do deserve better. Accountabilities have not been met.

“Daniel Andrews – and his Government – need to follow the lead of the former Lebanese Government in its own moment of chaos – and resign.  For all our sakes.”
