Inconsistent Mask Rules Impacting Small Business

Western Victoria MP Bev McArthur used a constituency question in Parliament this week to ask the Premier about the impact of the remaining mask rules on businesses.

A constituent wrote to the Member who owns a café on the Bellarine Peninsular inside a shopping centre, who expressed his concern over the requirement to wear a mask inside his café, when cafes and other businesses out on the street are not subject to the same rule.

Mrs McArthur said, “If you walk down the main street, go across the street to any shop or to a café down the road, no mask is required, but at this café a mask is required, because it is inside a shopping centre, even if nobody else is around at 5.30 am.”

“My constituent has already received negative feedback from customers about the mask requirement of his café.”

“Small disadvantages such as this can significantly impact small businesses. Of course, this government has no private sector business experience, so would not understand the detrimental impacts of their edicts.”

Mrs McArthur asked the Premier, “When will the face mask mandate be removed entirely?”
