GREEN DAN AND HIS GAS BAN

Member for Western Victoria Region, Bev McArthur has called on the Victorian Labor Government to join the Queensland Labor Government in supporting onshore conventional gas exploration.

While the Andrews Government has banned onshore conventional gas exploration due to supposed environmental concerns; the Palaszczuk Government is enjoying the fruits of cheaper and abundant gas.

Victoria has the highest power prices in the country and households are set to face additional power costs of at least $120 in 2020.

Bev McArthur said “This Government might claim to be from the Labor Party, but their policies are clearly more closely aligned with the Greens. Andrews doesn’t care about workers or industry but he clearly cares about chasing Greens votes inside the tram tracks of Melbourne.”

“The Labor Party in Queensland and the Federal Opposition recognise the idiocy of Andrews’ gas ban. Meanwhile, Victoria’s gas supply continues to decline while energy prices rise. It costs six times more to pipe gas down from Queensland than it does transporting it from within the state.”

“The Government should be technology-agnostic. It’s not up to Spring St to decide whether our power comes from gas-fired power stations, coal-fired power stations, wind-farms or solar. Households and businesses should be provided with the cheapest and most efficient energy possible so that we can keep costs down, and not be burdened by expensive power bills as we are now.”

“Ditching the gas ban is just common sense. Federal Labor Resources spokesman, Joel Fitzgibbon has said it makes no sense; the Queensland Labor Party is actively enabling onshore gas exploration; and the Federal Government has called on Victoria to lift the ban. It’s about time the Premier stopped listening to his so-called experts and started listening to the rest of the country,” she concluded.
