End The Misery And Stop The Mandates
The Victorian Government has been urged to ease all sanctions on Victorians as the state marks 30 days without a Coronavirus case.
The Liberal Member for Western Victoria, Bev McArthur, said Victorians have gone beyond the 28-day magic figure for the official elimination of the virus.
“Enough is enough. It’s time to let us out of our misery,” Mrs McArthur said.
“Unlike the Andrews Government, Victorians have done the right thing. We have locked up, locked down, masked up and wiped out this virus by sheer stamina and fear of fines.
“While one life was lost today due to ongoing complications of the virus and other health complications, there is now little need for the restrictions that continue to plague and suffocate our regular lives.
“These restrictions – such as numbers in venues, homes, workplaces – are simply numbers that are made up. They have no scientific basis and are random at best.
“These rubbery figures are meaningless – and rather puerile given no one has ever seen the evidence upon which these decisions and regulations are based,” she said.
The Andrews Government has also released its new system for the revised Hotel Quarantine program. The program will begin again on December 7 when the state begins to receive international flights.
While the Premier, Daniel Andrews, has described the revised quarantine measures as a “root-and-branch review of the original program”, Mrs McArthur said it remains vulnerable.
“This is the Premier who has refused to answer any questions about the quarantine failings that led to 800 deaths. He would simply brush them off and point to the handing down of the final report from the Coate Inquiry.
“It’s bad enough that this report is being handed down on the 21st of December – in deed, dumped on us under the cover of ‘Covid’ Christmas.
“But given he doesn’t have the final report – which is supposed to identify how the massive errors were made in Quarantine 1.0 – how does he know that what he is doing now is the right thing?
“The role given to the ADF in Quarantine 2.0 appears very limited and undefined, and merely in a “support” role to Victoria Police who wanted nothing to do with the original program,” she said.
“The signs aren’t good.”
Broader questions continue to be asked about appropriate contact tracing and QR systems.
“In the meantime, the Premier should give Victorians back their freedoms with Covid-safe sanitiser, careful social distancing and no mandatory anything,” Mrs McArthur said.
