Time Is Money - And Lives

The brutal lockdown of Victoria by the Andrews Labor Government shows no sign of ending anytime soon.

It is another reason why a decision must be made to build the Avalon Quarantine Centre.

Member for Western Victoria, Bev McArthur, said every day of the uncertainty, closed doors, economic meltdown and long queues is time, money and potentially lives lost.

“Victorians are sick of this mess. Few have the mental goodwill that existed when this virus first struck our shores.
Their political largesse is even waning.

“Victorians have lost faith in a Government which is clumsily telling us what to do - but can’t do it themselves.

“Avalon provides an immediate injection of positive action – of something real and tangible being done to lift the Covid-cloud,” Mrs McArthur said.

Her comments come as an Avalon-based construction company, CLOS, is preparing for a decision to build a quarantine facility at the Airport.

The company builds pre-fabricated homes and can make three a day.

“The Andrews Government’s focus on Mickleham has to end," she said.

“The site is ludicrously expensive, next door to an animal quarantine facility and more than that – not wanted by locals.

“The Avalon proposal is wanted by locals, can be delivered by locals and everyone – other than the Victorian Government - can see the logic and suitability of the site,” she said.

The Avalon proposal would enable travellers to go directly from a flight to the quarantine facility, is 20 minutes from a major hospital, can house at least 300 people and is backed by the Fox family that says it is ready to go with a plan that can also accommodate elite athletes.

“What we have is a solution.

“What we need is a Premier who can get a grip with reality and proceed with what would genuinely be a circuit-breaker.”
