My Member Statement today references our healthcare sector, and in rising I want to apologise for my absence due to hospitalisation in the extended sitting week, which emerged when the state budget was moved to this week, obviously after the federal election.

My thanks for your many messages of support. I rise to pay tribute to the exceptional nursing care I received at Epworth Richmond during my two-week stay.

I am also immensely grateful for the outstanding skills of my surgeon, Dr Alex Wong. All too often our service deliverers are at the receiving end of criticism and complaints.

I want to pay tribute to those at the front line of health care in this excellent hospital. The care I received was faultless, and I wish to congratulate the management of Epworth Richmond for the way in which that hospital is run.

All staff, whether nursing, catering or cleaning, were incredibly polite, patient, experienced and caring. It was also noticeable how diligent the senior staff were in their mentoring and teaching of young students.

Thank you, Epworth Richmond, and your staff, surgeons and anaesthetists. I am also aware of the very glowing reports that Epworth in Geelong receives, especially in their emergency department. I can quite clearly see that the patients of Epworth hospitals are in very good hands.
